They don’t come much thicker, deeper or longer than FLYF Queen Jewel 201. She is a meat and maternal powerhouse stacking the performance of her dam, the great James 904 cow, and her sire LCC King Rob 8621.

Every now and then two great animals nick just right to produce something truly special. Queen Jewel and her E.T. flush mates were just such a mating. Two of her full sisters (and flush-mates) were the top selling cows in the Chicken Creek Farms dispersal. The top cow brought $18,500 and her first calf, CCF Sequoya, was also the top selling yearling bull at Leachman’s that year. Sequoya’s super conformation and EPD’s of 1.6/ 55/ 92/ 26/ 53 with carcass of .06/.43 make him a bull to watch.

We also used Queen Jewel’s full brother, and another flush-mate, CCF King Lear 0116, as our main herd-sire the last couple of years. He too proved to be a powerhouse, passing along high growth, easy fleshing ability and strong maternal traits to his progeny. It is hard to believe that four such outstanding animals came from just one flush.

And the greatness continues. Queen Jewel 201’s first calf was a lovely heifer, by CCF Gold Fever (a Gold Robber son), which weighed only 69 lbs. at birth yet had an adjusted WW of 760 lbs. and maintained all the thickness and depth of her dam.

Queen Jewels EPD's are impressive but even they do not give the true power of this great young cow. Since we have sold all of our younger cows, except for Jewel, we had no other calves to form a contemporary group. In a normal year, this calf would have ratioed around 115 to 120 for growth and Jewel's EPDs should have now been in the 80 range for yearling instead of 69. The low 80's are, I believe, where she will be after a few more calves.
